Review of Bong Joon Ho’s Sci-Fi Comedy ‘Mickey 17’ on Lookmovie

Description

Based on the science fiction book “Mickey 7” by Edward Ashton, the movie opens with Pattinson’s character having fallen into a deep cave. Timo, his buddy, shows up for a brief moment before leaving him behind and wishing him “a nice death.” At this point, Mickey’s perceptive narration cuts to a flashback from four years earlier, detailing how he and Timo opened a French macaron bakery and accrued substantial debt to a loan shark. Leaving the planet was the only way to avoid the loan shark’s unrelenting pursuit. These exaggerations fit in perfectly with the protagonist’s job as a “expendable” and greatly add to the dystopian humor of the movie. Mickey is sent on dangerous missions in the sake of progress and is used as a vaccine test subject.
