Description

Quick lime, also known as calcium oxide (CaO), is a white, caustic, alkaline substance obtained by heating limestone (calcium carbonate) in a kiln at high temperatures. This process, known as calcination, drives off carbon dioxide from the limestone, resulting in the formation of quick lime.

Quick lime is a highly reactive chemical compound, especially when it comes into contact with water. When water is added, it undergoes an exothermic reaction, forming slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) and releasing heat. This property makes it incredibly valuable in various industrial applications.
